Black Hole Critical Phenomena Without Black Holes
نویسنده
چکیده
Studying the threshold of black hole formation via numerical evolution has led to the discovery of fascinating nonlinear phenomena. Power-law mass scaling, aspects of universality, and self-similarity have now been found for a large variety of models. However, questions remain. Here I briefly review critical phenomena, discuss some recent results, and describe a model which demonstrates similar phenomena without gravity.

The phase transition of corrected black hole with f(R) gravity
In this letter, we consider static black hole in f(R) gravity. We take advantage from corrected entropy and temperature and investigate such black hole. Finally, we study the $ P - V $ critically and phase transition of corrected black hole with respect to entropy and temperature. Here also, we obtain the heat capacity for the static black hole in $ f(R) $ gravity. This calculation help us...
متن کاملGauss-Bonnet Black Holes in AdS Spaces
We study thermodynamic properties and phase structures of topological black holes in Einstein theory with a Gauss-Bonnet term and a negative cosmological constant. The event horizon of these topological black holes can be a hypersurface with positive, zero or negative constant curvature. When the horizon is a zero curvature hypersurface, the thermodynamic properties of black holes are completel...
متن کاملEmergence of an effective two-dimensional quantum description from the study of critical phenomena in black holes.
We study the occurrence of critical phenomena in four dimensional, rotating and charged black holes, derive the critical exponents and show that they fulfill the scaling laws. Correlation functions critical exponents and Renormalization Group considerations assign an effective (spatial) dimension, d = 2, to the system. The two dimensional Gaussian approximation to critical systems is shown to r...
متن کاملTransient Phenomena and Outbursts from Galactic Black-hole Candidates
The RossiXTE mission provided us with an unprecedentedly large database of X-ray observations of transient black-hole candidates. These systems are crucial for the understanding of the physical properties of mass accretion onto black holes. Here I review the results on a selected sample of systems and describe their behavior in a purely phenomenological way. From these results, we can derive a ...
متن کاملThe Influence of Central Black Holes on Gravitational Lenses
Recent observations indicate that many if not all galaxies host massive central black holes. In this paper we explore the influence of black holes on the lensing properties. We model the lens as an isothermal ellipsoid with a finite core radius plus a central black hole. We show that the presence of the black hole substantially changes the critical curves and caustics. If the black hole mass is...
